Aurrum Kids’ approach to childcare is built upon a foundation of relevant guidelines, legislation and the ECA Code of Ethics for childcare workers. This helps to ensure that we provide a reliable service that properly supports and nurtures your child’s development.
Relevant guidelines
In addition to our Code of Ethics, childcare educators at Aurrum Kids closely follow the Reggio Emilia approach to early childhood learning and development.
Reggio Emilia is an educational philosophy that is based upon a child-centred curriculum that emphasises the importance of self-directed learning within a relationship-driven environment. This approach to learning emphasises the importance of respect, responsibility and community in childhood development and the valuable role each factor plays in driving a child’s play, discovery and exploration.
Our work is further guided by the realisation and promotion of the UN Rights of the Child. This international human rights treaty enforces the notion that every child is born with an inalienable right to education, safety, play, leisure and the prerogative to express themselves freely.

Our Ethical Commitments
Aurrum Kids observes the principles within the ECA’s Code of Ethics, which sets out foundational values of the early childhood education profession. These principles outline commitments that each childhood educator must make in order to fully maintain the rights and dignity of children, colleagues, families and the broader community.
Commitments to children
An early childhood educator’s primary commitment is to the children in their care. They have both a legal and moral obligation to support each child and protect their rights.
Supporting a child means helping them to fulfil their potential, meet their needs and explore their interests in a safe and respectful environment. It also means understanding that childhood is about more than just preparing for the future: it is about enjoying the here and now.
An early childhood educator must respect all of the children under their care and ensure that others maintain a similar level of respect towards them. All children deserve the same respect, no matter their gender, race, ethnicity, physical appearance, family structure, ability, language background, economic status or any other factor.
Commitments to colleagues
To provide consistently excellent care, an early childhood educator must demonstrate commitment and a level of professionalism when maintaining their relationships with colleagues. They should acknowledge that each of their colleagues brings unique skill sets and knowledge to the profession. Early childhood educators must also support their colleagues and encourage them to continue making positive contributions to their profession.
Commitments to families
An early childhood educator must respect and support the role of families as the primary caregivers and educators of the child. This respect includes maintaining open and honest communication with the child’s family, appreciating the family’s knowledge of their child and the uniqueness of each family, and maintaining confidentiality for sensitive information.

By choosing a profession in early childhood education, educators are committing themselves to a career dedicated to respecting and maintaining the rights and dignity of children. Early childhood educators should base their work on practice evidence, sound knowledge and professional research. They should take responsibility for realising professional values and actively encourage ethical practices within the profession.
Commitments to community and society
Childcare educators must promote the value of children in contributing to the future development of strong and vibrant communities. They should collaborate with the local community to inform the creation of responsive programs that properly enhance children’s learning and development. Childcare educators should also advocate for the development and enactment of laws and policies that further protect the rights of the child and equal access to education.
