What to expect on the first day
The first day of childcare can be equally exciting and challenging. Our team of educators are well-versed in helping children transition smoothly into our childcare environment.
They’ll be ready to greet you and your child with a warm welcome and will take the time to get to know your child, their interests, and any specific needs they may have. This close attention will make sure that our educators can deliver a personalised approach that ensures your child feels valued from the very beginning. Throughout the first day, our educators will help your child settle into daily routines, such as meal times, playtimes and rest periods.
What to bring
- Depending on your child’s needs, you may need to bring:
- A change of clothes
- Hat
- Water bottle
- Comforter (if appropriate)
- Formula or breast milk (including bottle)
What you'll get
We provide all new children with an enrolment pack that includes a carry bag and a hat. For toddlers and Kinder students, drink bottles are also provided to keep them hydrated throughout their active day. Children that graduate to the 4-year-old Kinder program will also receive a special gift — an Aurrum Kids t-shirt to commemorate their achievement.
Orientation sessions
We believe that a successful start begins with familiarity. That’s why we organise orientation sessions for all children and families before they officially begin their childcare journey. These sessions allow your child to become acquainted with our environment, educators, and fellow peers, so they can start their early learning journey on a confident note. Our team will also use this time to learn vital information about your child’s needs and interests.
During this orientation, team members may discuss the following:
- The cultural and/or linguistic background for families from non-English speaking backgrounds
- The family’s needs in relation to work or other commitments
- Days and times childcare is required
- Any additional needs of the child and/ or family
- Program and practice approach
- The child’s interests
- Family goals and expectations
- Any allergies or dietary needs for the child
- Emergency or health care plans for the child if relevant
- The centre and room routines
Additional parent information
We know that every family brings a unique approach, experience and style to parenting. Our goal is to provide you with information that will best support your parenting style, resulting in a seamless transition between home and care. We use an online parent platform to keep you informed of all activities happening at the centre so that you can participate regardless of your schedule.
