This government-funded program is making preschool for 3-5 year olds accessible and affordable for families, ensuring they benefit from engaging and meaningful early learning experiences in a warm, caring, and nurturing environment where children can play, grow, and thrive.
The NSW Government’s Start Strong for Long Day Care program offers eligible families up to 600 hours of early childhood education and child care in NSW, per child per year. This is approximately 15 hours per week, delivered in an enriching, play-based environment.
2025 Start Stong for Long Day Care covers:
- Families with children who are at least 4 years old on or before 31 July 2025 and are enrolled at an eligible long day care service may save up to $2,174 in 2025.
- Families with children who are at least 3 years old on or before 31 July 2025 and are enrolled at an eligible long day care service may save up to $515 in 2025.
The program supports the cost of providing preschool programs in long day care services, family day care, preschools, and outside school hours care services.

How the NSW Government’s Start Strong program works
- The funding for your child’s fee relief will be provided to our service, directly from the NSW.
- Government, and we will pass this fee relief on to you as a reduction to your fees.
- You cannot receive fee relief at more than one early childhood education service.
- There will be no impact on your Child Care Subsidy (CCS). Start Strong fee relief is not income tested and you do not need to be receiving CCS to be eligible for fee relief.
- There are no citizenship or residency status requirements to access fee relief.
- The Start Strong for Long Day Care fee relief will be allocated to you as a flat rate across 40 weeks during the calendar year. This will be between the March and December period.
- If your child will be attending another service that offers fee relief (a community preschool or another long day care service), it is up to you to choose which service you would like to receive fee relief from. You will need to fill out a Declaration and consent form at each service your child attends.

NSW Start Strong eligibility
To qualify for preschool funding in NSW under the Start Strong program, families need to meet these simple criteria:
- Address: Must live in NSW.
- Age: For 3-year-olds, the child’s birthdate must be on or before 31 July 2022. For 4-year-olds, the child’s birthdate must be on or before 31 July 2021.
- Attendance: The child must attend an approved early childhood education and care service for at least 12 hours per week.
- Approved Service: The program must be offered by a service approved by the NSW Department of Education and participating in the Start Strong initiative.

Provide written preschool funding consent in NSW
If your child is at least 3 years old on or before 31 July 2025, you must:
- Compete the 2025 NSW Start Strong funding Declaration and consent form. We’ll provide these forms to you on your enrolment.
- Return the form to us as soon as possible so that we can determine whether to apply fee relief to your child’s account.
